Patterned After God's Word... PDF Print E-mail

Today many seek the real thing when it comes to religion.  People want a real faith and a relationship with Jesus Christ. They want to stop “playing church” and to find real Christianity.  If you truly want this, then the key is to return to the New Testament itself.  Without this rulebook, every person does as he pleases—to change, delete, and adjust according to his own whims.  The result is that man descends into a terrible state of sin and degradation when he fails to heed God’s instructions (Romans 1:18-32).

Restoring New Testament Christianity is not a movement but a constant, never-ending process requiring integrity, courage, and diligence.  Even the smallest of changes can have devastating effects on the purity of the original New Testament order (Galatians 1:8-9).  However, if we will fully follow the apostles’ doctrine, the completed revelation of God’s will for man, we can be “complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (II Timothy 3:17).  Remember, the New Testament had its origin in the mind of God (I Corinthians 2:1; Ephesians 3:1-2) and is “inspired” (II Timothy 3:16).  “Christianity,” or “The Bible,” is not the result of some ecclesiastical council, synod, or religious gathering.  It will tolerate no change or perversion (II John 1:9).  All men will be judged by it (John 12:48), and it is the “power of God unto salvation” (Romans 1:16).  By following the New Testament alone, we can restore Christianity, as God would have it, and save our souls.

Perhaps a church strictly patterned after God’s Word, instead of man’s ideas, creeds, and opinions, interests you.  If so, take a moment to become acquainted with Church Street Church of Christ because that is exactly what we seek to be.

As a church, our interests and emphasis are on everlasting things.  We give our attention to going to heaven and the manner of life that is consistent with that goal. Therefore, our resources are used mainly in teaching, studying the Bible, and worshipping God as He directs through the New Testament.  You will find us to be a church concerned about spiritual and eternal issues.  We have no objection to eating together, playing games, or having a good time.  However, there is a time and place for all things (Ecclesiastes 3:1).  If you desire a church that makes no apology for trying to do and be what God has instructed in His Word, come worship with us.

We believe the Bible is the Word of God, that it is the only guide for man, that it is all man needs for life and godliness (II Peter 1:3).  In our classes, both the Old and New Testaments are taught.  In our services, the Bible is read; and from the pulpit, biblical sermons are preached.  If you hunger to know and understand God’s Word, worship and study with us.

We care about people and show it by our concern for their deepest need:  salvation from sin (Romans 3:23, 6:23).  We are always interested in those who do not know Jesus Christ.  We work diligently to provide them with what they need for salvation, the knowledge of God’s Word.  Through a variety of teaching methods and aids, we strive to help people understand how to be saved and then to continue serving God throughout their lives.  From personal Bible studies, videotapes, and correspondence courses, we are resolved to do all we can to lead people to Christ.  This is man’s only true need.  We believe we glorify God when we can serve and function in this area.  If you are interested in a church that leaves politics, entertainment, and social causes behind in order to pursue eternal needs and goals, come study with us.

The Church Street Church of Christ congregation is not perfect; it is composed of people.  We are simply Christians, people who believe Jesus is the Christ (Matthew 16:16) and have obeyed His commandments (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).  We recognize we are not perfect, but we continually strive to be more like Jesus (I Peter 2:21).  If a church that obeys God’s Word interests you, worship with us.  By following the New Testament, and only the New Testament, we can restore simple, pure New Testament Christianity.
